Happy Mo-vember 11/1

One non-hockey item to pass along from Phantoms practice today, the team will be joining in the fight against prostate cancer by participating in "Mo-vember."

There are a couple of different aspects to the ongoing promotion, but the most notable one is that players and the team's front office staff will be growing mustaches all month long.

Team officials were busy taking "before" photos after Wednesday's and today's Phantoms practices. I'm told those will go on jars in the lobby and fans will have the opportunity to donate by dropping money in their favorite player's jars. There's also an online page where you can donate directly here.

Proceeds will benefit a variety of men's health charities, according to the team. So will a portion of the proceeds from a mustache-themed jersey auction that will take place following their Nov. 24 game. Those will benefit the C.R. Wood Cancer Center at Glens Falls Hospital.

Should be interesting to see which participating players have the best mustaches by that point.

Below, a list of 19 players who got their "before" photos after Wednesday's and Thursday's practices:

Marc-Andre Bourdon, Matt Konan, Oliver Lauridsen, Mike Testwuide, Rob Bordson, Brayden Schenn, Shane Harper, Zack FitzGerald, Sean Couturier, Andrew Johnston, Tye McGinn, Tyler Brown, Cullen Eddy, Eric Wellwood, Matthew Ford, Garrett Roe, Scott Munroe, Cal Heeter, Jeff Dimmen.

A couple of the other guys expressed interest in participating, but haven't yet shaved. And some of the participating players have already gotten a head start. For example, Bourdon and Ford both showed up to practice today sporting Fu Manchu mustaches. Ford, though, said he wasn't entirely sure he'd be able to keep his going for the entire month. His wife is supposed to visit him later.

The Phantoms are also selling "Phantoms Fight Cancer" shirts at home games and in the front office. The shirts are $20 and $5 from each one sold will benefit local prostate cancer survivors, research and facilities. A package including a T-shirt and ticket to a November home game is $30.
