Holmstrom out 12/9

HolmstromJust received word from the team that Adirondack captain Ben Holmstrom will miss today's game at Providence with an undisclosed lower-body injury he suffered in last night's win over the Syracuse Crunch.

Holmstrom left the game in the second period and appeared to be favoring his left leg. According to the team, the 25-year-old UMass-Lowell product "felt something" after dumping the puck in on a routine play. The team did not specify how long Holmstrom is expected to be out of the lineup.

The right wing had posted eight points in 22 games with the Phantoms this season. He had mostly been used on the team's third line with Rob Bordson and Zac Rinaldo, but had been promoted to a scoring line with Sean Couturier and Harry Zolnierczyk prior to the Syracuse game. He was also a fixture on the team's power play.

Holmstrom has appeared in 181 games with the Phantoms during his career and needs just one more appearance to tie Jon Kalinski for second place on the Adirondack Phantoms' all-time games played list. Former Phantoms defenseman Kevin Marshall holds the top spot with 185 games played.

Holmstrom also needs six points to tie Denis Hamel for the most in Adirondack Phantoms history with 96.

More after the game.
