Pre-Game vs. Albany 1/18

Greetings from the Glens Falls Civic Center, where the Albany Devils (14-13-1-6) and Adirondack Phantoms (15-18-1-1) have hit the ice for warm-ups. It's Adirondack's first home game since Jan. 5, when Sean Couturier gave them a 2-1 overtime win in his final act as a Phantom. Philadelphia finalized their 23-man roster and he, Eric Wellwood, Zac Rinaldo and Brayden Schenn are all on it.

There is a chance one of them (or Tom Sestito) comes back to the AHL when Danny Briere returns from a wrist injury, but I think a lot will depend on how things work out with first-rounder Scott Laughton. They can play him for five games and not burn a year off his entry-level deal. We'll see.

Brian Boucher and Andreas Lilja, who cleared waivers yesterday, are on the roster. Boucher is a healthy scratch, but it looks like Lilja is in the line-up. That's interesting, because this report in the Swedish newspaper Expressen quotes him as saying that he doesn't want to play for the Phantoms and was considering heading back to his native Sweden to play in the Swedish Elite League.

Expressen apparently used a quote Lilja said to Helsingborgs Dagblad, a paper closer to his home.

"I don't want to play for the farm team," the report, when translated, quotes Lilja as saying. "I know I'm a good enough player to be able to play where I want and that's something that's irritating me right now. I want to come ahead to something (i.e., make a decision) as quickly as possible."

Will have to ask him about that after tonight's game. The plan was to put Boucher, who didn't play during the lockout, through a heavy workout this morning and then scratch him for tonight's game. There is still a chance he could play later this weekend, as the Phantoms continue a three-in-three.

Albany leads the season series 3-1. More after the game.
